The Answers You Need

Dr. Martin Nimmo is committed to providing the highest standards of care. He therefore uses products which have an excellent safety record and provide a natural appearance. As a result, he chooses to only use Botox® and Juvederm to deliver this.

In the same manner as which treatment is right for me, the cost of treatment will depend on the complexity of each individual case and your expectations of treatment. At a Comprehensive Consultation, Dr. Martin Nimmo will give you a written treatment plan outlining the investment for treatment.

Before treatment you should avoid alcohol and exercise within a couple of hours of the appointment. These both cause blood vessels to become wider which can increase the chances of bruising.

Following treatment you will have little raised red bumps, similar to bee stings, which should settle within 30 minutes to an hour. We would advise not to drink alcohol for the rest of the day, or do any exercise for 48 hours after treatment. We would advise not to rub or apply pressure to the treated area, or bend forward within the first 4 hours after treatment as this could potentially displace the botox before it has been fully absorbed. Avoid saunas or steam for 2 weeks following treatment, and avoid flying within 24 hours of administration.

In general, going to an expert such as Dr. Martin, ensures that risks of botox treatment are very low. There are some mild consequences we expect to happen as standard following treatment, and some risks which are exceptionally rare. The usual things to expect following treatment are some small red bumps, similar to bee stings, which are present for about 30 minutes to an hour after treatment. Occasionally a small bruise can appear at an injection site, but this can normally be covered with make-up and will generally resolve within 3-5 days. Occasionally some patients feel a slight headache after Botox® treatment, but this tends to be easily treated with paracetamol. At your consultation Dr. Martin can go into these in more detail before you choose to proceed.

After administration, the effects of botox can start to be seen after around 3-5 days, however it can be up to 2 weeks until the full effects have set in. At this stage, Dr. Martin will review the results and top-up if there are any adjustments required. Typically botox will last around 3-4 months before the movement starts to return. This can vary quite significantly from patient to patient depending on the dose of botox, the strength and activity of the muscle, and the metabolism of a given individual. No guarantee can be given on the duration of treatment. Typically patients who have had regular botox for a number of years will have a longer duration than those who are starting treatment or are irregular attenders. This is because the muscle becomes weaker and has less ‘memory’ over time.

The effects of dermal fillers are instantaneous, although it can take 4-6 weeks for the product to completely integrate into the tissues and look at their best. The longevity of a product will vary significantly depending on the thickness of the product and where it has been placed. Areas which move a lot like the lips and chin will breakdown the filler more than a region with minimal movement like the temple. On average for the Juvederm Vycross range of fillers, results can last between 12-18 months.
